2016 Beauty Favorites

As we say farewell to another year and welcome a new one, I thought I would share with you my favourite beauty products that I couldn't live without throughout 2016 and will most likely keep loving in 2017. I have included not only makeup but skin care products and tools as well. I am looking forward to trying new products in 2017 and am always excited for new brands too.

Make-up Products

I thought I should start with the base, and this is one that I have been using since probably about 2014 so it's definitely been a faithful one. This is the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation and I love this as my day time foundation. I like a foundation that gives a good coverage but doesn't sit too heavy on the skin and this does exactly that. This is definitely the foundation for you if you suffer from slightly drier skin as it's super hydrating and sits on the skin really nicely smoothing out any dry patches. I use the colour Vanilla which is such a nice all-year-round base colour for my skin.

This next product is something that I discovered mid 2016 and I am so thankful for it. It's another product from Bourjois and it's their Radiance Reveal Concealer in shade 01 Light. I use this under my eyes and its amazing for brightening and concealing any dark circles but without being too heavy. It blends so nicely and doesn't crease in the corners of my eyes. I have also tried the Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer for under my eyes but it is just too thick and drying where as the Radiance Reveal one I find is a lot lighter and hydrating. I still use the Healthy Mix concealer but only for areas like my chin or if I have a breakout that needs a thicker concealer.

My next fave is something that I had only recently started using at the end of 2016 but I love it and I think it's probably one of Benefits best sellers. It's the Hoola Bronzer. I probably don't need to explain myself too much but for those of you that may not have tried this bronzer, you are seriously missing out. This is the most amazing colour for contouring as it isn't too orange and has no shimmer to it so it gives a really nice matte shadow effect and it looks more natural. If you either like that chiseled cheek bone look or if you just want a light contour this is perfect for building up to give you what ever look you want to go for. This was definitely a game changer after all of those turkey dinners over christmas. #goodbyedoublechin

I couldn't leave this blog post without mentioning a lip product seeing as I love my lipsticks and wouldn't leave the house with out putting even a bit of gloss on. The MAC Retro Matte Lipcolour  is a god send. You literally have to apply this once and then you don't have to touch it again all day and I love it. If I don't know what colour lip to go for in the morning this is definitely my easy-to-wear, goes-with-anything kinda lip. I think I bought this from the MAC store when I went in to re-purchase my Peach Stock lipstick but then I saw this range and could not resist. The colour I bought is Lady Be Good and it's pretty much the same colour as Peach Stock which is the perfect nude colour for me. I don't know why I haven't invested in any other colours from this Matte Lipstick range but I definitely will be soon. But yeah, God Send.

The next thing is also something that I very very rarely leave the house without applying and that is the beloved Ardell Wispies lashes. I just love these, as do many other beauty fanatics. The shape of these are perfect for my eyes as I don't like lashes that are longer just on the outer corner as I think it makes my eye lids look really heavy. These Wispies lashes have longer length in the centre of the lash so it opens up the eyes making them look bigger. My natural lashes are just so rubbish and short and always have been so I actually feel naked when I don't wear my lashes now (sad I know).

Skin Care Products

My first skin care product is one that is just so useful to have in my drawer. It's the Dermalogica Pre-cleanse wipes. I don't use these all the time but they're great to have for traveling, when you just want to pack a quick over night bag and can't be bothered to take your proper cleanser. They're also fab for those times when you've cleansed your skin in the shower and then you look in the mirror after you've got out and there is still mascara allllll around your eyes. I just use one of these to wipe away any excess that I thought I had gotten rid of in the shower but some how had missed. I know these are a slightly more pricey make-up wipe but they definitely do the job, and I love them because they leave your skin feeling super soft and hydrated too.

Daily Microfoliant is another product by Dermalogica but again it's fab! The is an exfoliator that is so gentle you can use it ever day as it's in a powder form and is chemically active, rather that a granular exfoliator that if over used can absolutely destroy my skin. This just leaves my skin looking and feeling super fresh and super smooth. I suffer from dry skin so this just gently buffs any dead, dry skin away. I don't use this every single day but probably every other to keep my skin looking fresh.

If you have read my previous blog post Christmas Goodies you will already know what my all time fave perfume is. For those of you who don't know, it's Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf . This has been a favourite for some time now as it's perfect for day and evening time as it's not too over powering. It's quite a sweet floral fragrance but not too sweet that it becomes sickly. I am yet to try any of the other variations but I always like the original versions of perfumes, just like the original Jimmy Choo one.

The only essential tool/accessory that I thought was worth putting in this blog post was the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. Or course I love and get on really well with all of the Real Techniques brush range but this sponge is something that I use every single day. This sponge has multiple uses; it's great for blending concealer under the eyes, around the nose and chin. Applying powder to 'bake' or set your concealer and to also blend your contour. These are such a reasonable price too compared to the Beautyblender, they are like a third of the price and considering how many of these I get through they are a lot better value for money. Although I do clean my sponge regularly you can never get it back to the condition it started at and when it goes a horrible colour it just puts me off using it. I buy 2 or 3 of these at a time and I mean, one does last me a good couple of months but I can't justify throwing away something that costs £16 every couple of months just because it's gone a funny colour. So yeah these Real Techniques sponges are definitely something that I couldn't live without and there's always a spare in my make-up drawer.
